When you choose PiiGAB, you get more than just products – you get a long-term partner with deep technical expertise and a comprehensive approach to IMD installations.
What is IMD metering?
This means that each household or premises within a building is metered separately, making it possible to charge each user based on their actual consumption. This usually applies to electricity, cold and hot water, and sometimes heating as well. By connecting meters to each unit, you get a transparent and accurate picture of energy consumption. Individual metering and billing is an effective solution for measuring and allocating the costs of electricity, water and hot water based on actual consumption. For property owners, tenant-owner associations and new-build projects, it is a powerful tool for creating fair and energy-efficient living environments. PiiGAB’s solutions ensure a secure installation that complies with legal requirements.
How does IMD work?
It is based on a network of meters connected to a data collection system. Data from each individual apartment is sent to a gateway, where it is compiled and exported to a billing system before ultimately being invoiced to the apartment resident. PiiGAB offers reliable IMD metering systems supporting protocols such as M-Bus and wireless M-Bus, making the installation both flexible and scalable.
Examples of components:
- Meters for electricity, cold water and hot water
- Gateways that handle M-Bus and wireless M-Bus as well as LoRa
- Complete infrastructure for wireless systems, such as repeaters, antennas and cabling
Bill fairly with PiiGAB
With PiiGAB’s technology, tenant-owner associations and property owners can ensure that each user pays for their actual consumption. This reduces the incentive for excessive consumption and contributes to more sustainable buildings. Our solutions meet current IMD requirements and are specifically adapted for building automation and energy efficiency improvements.
Benefits of IMD metering
Installing an IMD system offers several benefits – not least for household finances and the environment. Measuring and billing based on actual consumption creates a fair system in which no one pays for someone else’s energy use.
For tenant-owner associations
For tenant-owner associations, IMD is a way to increase awareness of energy and water consumption. It contributes to greater comfort, lower energy costs and often increased property values as well.
For property owners
Owners of rental properties and commercial buildings gain better control over energy consumption and can more easily identify energy waste. It also enables fairer rent allocation and better communication with tenants.
For new construction
Today, it is standard in many new-build projects and a natural step towards smart, energy-efficient buildings. PiiGAB offers solutions that are easy to integrate into new construction projects and meet market requirements.
What does the law say?
Under Swedish legislation, IMD is required in certain types of buildings. For example, it is required for hot water in major renovations and the construction of new multi-dwelling buildings. Choosing solutions from PiiGAB ensures that the installation complies with current regulations and technical standards. Read more about the applicable requirements on
